Dr. Fouad El Sayyad is an American Board-certified ophthalmologist and consultant cornea, cataract and refractive surgeon in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida and cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. His practice focuses on corneal transplantation, keratoconus, cataract surgery and vision correction.

Dr. El Sayyad’s practice focuses on the cornea and anterior segment of the eye, from treating corneal disease to planning cataract and vision-correction surgery. Care begins with detailed examination, appropriate imaging and a discussion of the patient’s visual priorities.
Corneal transplantation and disease: DMEK, DSAEK, DALK and full-thickness transplantation (PKP), alongside care for corneal scarring, infections, Fuchs’ dystrophy and complex ocular surface disease.
Keratoconus: assessment and monitoring, corneal cross-linking, intracorneal ring segments and planning for rigid gas-permeable or scleral contact lenses.
Cataract surgery: individualized intraocular lens selection, including toric, extended-depth-of-focus and multifocal/trifocal lenses, with attention to coexisting corneal disease and previous refractive surgery.
Refractive surgery: evaluation for SMILE Pro, Femto-LASIK, PRK, PRESBYOND laser blended vision and ICL implantation, including toric ICLs. Advanced laser procedures are provided through Pro Vision Eye Center in Mivida, New Cairo.
Treatment is selected according to the condition of the eye, examination findings and daily visual needs. Dr. El Sayyad explains the available options, expected recovery, limitations and alternatives, including nonsurgical care when appropriate. Follow-up is an integral part of treatment.
His peer-reviewed work includes corneal transplantation, keratoconus imaging, ocular surface disease and intraocular lens surgery. He also contributes to ophthalmic education, including presentations on corneal disease and imaging.
